How to Keep Your Jewelry Sparkling
Sparkling Jewelry 101
Once you have invested in a beautiful piece of jewelry, it is important to consider how to keep it in the best condition possible. Dirt and grime get on jewelry in the same way it does your sink or floors! And if you wear your jewelry (as we hope you do! No use sitting in a jewelry box!!), you will notice scratches and discoloring that may occur over time. For white gold jewelry, for example, you will notice that over time the soft natural gold color starts to show after wearing the item for some time.
We may be biased, but we definitely suggest you keep up with cleaning your jewelry the same as you would anything that is important to you! Here are some tips:
- Avoid coating your jewelry with harsh chemicals, oils, and lotions. We get it - you're a busy person and your jewelry is part of your daily life! But, if possible, try to put on your lotions and clean your home before putting on your jewelry that may be exposed to those oils and chemicals. Otherwise, the dirt and grime will stick to your jewelry MUCH faster. Also, there are some harsh chemicals (like bleach and chlorine) that can weaken metals over time.
- Get your white and yellow gold jewelry professionally polished at least once a year, but we recommend it at least 2-4 times a year, especially for high-quality pieces. (Yes, we offer this, come see us!). This will remove those scrapes and scratches that build up over time with natural wear and tear.
- White gold deserves a professional dip refresh once a year. We offer this as well, to prevent the yellow or dirt coloring from taking over your white gold pieces.
- Steam cleaning (PROFESSIONALLY!! for safety please) goes a long way to get that original shine back in all jewelry (gold and silver). All of our jewelry gets polished and steamed prior to shipping, and you can visit us at any time for while-you-wait cleaning.
- Use at-home jewelry cleaners for your specific metal for more regular (once a week) cleaning, and brush crevices with a soft brush. Avoid using unknown cleaners or harsh chemicals on your jewelry. We offer a gold/diamond/precious stone cleaner as well as a silver cleaner that can be shipped directly to you! (See Jewelry Cleaner collection)
Let your jewelry shine! You have earned it.
